How to boot straight to the Desktop in Windows 8.1

If you have Windows 8.1 (you can check out more about it in our Windows 8.1 blog post) you can now turn your computer on and have it load straight to the Desktop like previous versions of Windows have.

  1. Right-click on the taskbar and choose Properties
  2. Click the Navigation tab on the top of the window that appears
  3. Tick the box next to When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start
  4. Click OK

Your Windows 8.1 computer will now boot straight to the familiar Desktop instead of the Start screen. Need help getting this to work? Call Restart.
